Young Po-Po Pogan looks like the training went to his head. You respond reflexively to anything affecting your safety. It's classic cowboy-cop behavior: anything that might possibly become a threat, you stomp.

Sad thing is, knocking down a guy on a bike can be made to look better on his record than getting knocked down.

Probably the same way I've always found it odd to meet people born and raised in Jersey City who'd never crossed the River to visit NYC!

While I'm aware that Bloomfield is a suburb of Newark -- especially now that school has started -- when we moved here we definitely thought of it as a suburb of NYC and I admitted my ignorance and predjudice right in this post. That said, I'm actually quite interested in getting to know more about Newark and look forward to doing so in the near future. I'm bookmarking your blog and look forward to reading it. Thanks!

I find it odd that someone who apparently lives close to Newark knows little about the city that makes this entire region work. Certainly anyone familiar with Newark today should have been as livid as Booker was with the ESQUIRE slanders and absurdities. But I suppose there is a certain comfort in sticking to old stereotypes. I suppose as well that it is easy to skip directly from the 'burbs to NYC without spending much -- or any -- time in Newark. Plainly some people regard Bloomfield as a suburb of NY, not of Nwk. That's a pity, because Newark has a lot to offer, and is so much easier to get to and more pleasant to be in. Newark's art 'season' is about to start, with an opening at the Robeson Galleries Sept. 11th. You don't have to leap from a quiet suburb to the maelstrom of Manhattan. There is a middle ground: Newark.

No, I think his retirement was legit at the moment he announced it, but it's not unusual for atheletes -- especially accomplished atheletes like Favre -- to have a change of heart as a new season approaches. Football is all Favre really knows and as long as he remains one of the best QBs in the league -- definitely Top 10, IMO -- it's going to be hard for him to walk away. I think his plan was to stay in Green Bay and he was genuinely hurt that they'd moved on -- as they needed to do -- and weren't welcoming him back with open arms. It's at that point the thing became an ugly soap opera and his selfishness took over.
